Parkinsounds® uses the power of music to improve walking ability of people with Parkinson’s disease. Parkinsons is more than trembling hands. Medicine and surgery can provide a difference to a patient, however many of the balance and gait deficits as well as freezing are resistant to most of these treatments. A common and effective strategy to improve gait performance and mobility is to apply external (auditory) cueing techniques through rhythmic music. Additionally, music may elicit physiological pleasure sensations related to reward and emotions, which may in turn distract from sensations such as fatigue and increase therapy compliance for long-term interventions.
